Testimonials

Dear Lisa,

On my last visit to you, I didn’t have the time nor the words to express what I’ve gleaned from your book.

I’d like to take that opportunity now. Several times, I’ve returned to reread passages, and I still have questions as I work with Janet Hare on my pain recovery journey. Pain imprints on the brain and what does my gut have to do with it remain a mystery.

“Pain as a Habit”, I’ve reread twice. Definitely written for me!

Poor posture, working on this with Janet, a major issue according to her

Poor body awareness, klutz, etc. That’s always been me, but working with dancing, yoga, tai chi, conscious breath and body meditation to help.

Lack of grounding: how grounded am I? How to tell?

Poor sleep, pain awakens me nightly

Perfectionism, I almost skipped this part because I’m not a perfectionist. At least I didn’t’ think so, but it’s so me!!

Overthinking pain, catastrophic thinking, I do it so well!

Also, read twice, Pain Triggers. Leg sensations, sadness, outer leg, impatience and frustration; hypervigilant, I am improving there.

Still questioning the Pain Release Process, and will reread that again. Hidden emotion? Chronic inflammation?

So, the book is of so much value. Thanks for taking me on as a patient and for writing the book. Can’t wait for it to come out in real print!

Warm regards,

Pat Barner

Dr. Barr, I want to let you know that I am extremely appreciative for my healing experience in which you are responsible.

Initially, you performed Prolotherapy techniques on my damaged left knee and after three sessions I knew that healing was in progress. After an additional three months with no additional Prolo, I rarely notice my knee (which is the ultimate goal).

After three successful knee sessions, I requested, and you agreed to proceed to both of my hips and sacroiliac [joints], which have been diagnosed with degenerative bone disease and have been progressively diminishing my ‘quality of life’ for about three years.

Upon completion of four Prolo sessions, you advised that we should hold off for a while and allow the continuing healing process to play out. About three weeks after this fourth Prolo event, it was necessary for me to fly to Beijing, China on business. This entails trips of about 24 hours duration, in the worst kind of environment for arthritic lower back and hips! The good news is, due to the success of your procedures, I made the trip with minimum discomfort and no physical limitations.

The ‘coup de gras’ of the trip is documented with the enclosed sheet of digital photos showing me on top of the Great Wall of China on my 67th birthday, having successfully made the incredibly arduous climb up the steps which take you to the wall top (an incline of 35-45 degrees)! Five months prior to this, any thought of attempting to do this would have been totally out of the question. This is a definitive testament to the ‘efficacy’ of the procedure and skills of you and your professional staff.
Please accept my grateful thanks.

I wanted to write and let you know how much your practice website has meant to me. I had an appointment with Dr. Barr. She showed me how to do the shoulder corner stretch. Having very little body awareness, I just didn’t get it. I was instructed by a talented staff member, who explained and demonstrated the exercise to me. I did practice a few times with her, and I thought I understood how to do the exercise correctly. Before I left the office I was told about the website and that this exercise was demonstrated there.

After unsuccessfully attempting the exercise at home, I used the website to learn the exercise. I was tickled to see that Tanya was the same person demonstrating the exercise on the website. She does such a nice job breaking down the exercise. I can actually see her dropping her shoulders and doing the exercise step by step.

Thank you and your colleagues again for taking the time to pursue this endeavor. I know it will be appreciated very much by people like me who don’t have much body awareness and need to exercise to strengthen muscles that haven’t been used in a long time due to pain and discomfort.

I cannot begin to explain the helplessness and hopelessness I felt while suffering from abdominal pain that defied diagnosis by 8 leading physicians and surgeons in the Hampton Roads area! Even after 6 MRI’s and 3 CAT scans, I had no diagnosis and consequently, no treatment, other than narcotics, for pain that was initially so severe I was unable to sit up for even a few seconds.

I had barely finished recounting the events that led me to her when Dr. Barr said, “I can help you” and I believed her! Two days after that initial visit, I was in Dr. Barr’s treatment room receiving the first injections that gave me back my life. She diagnosed the source of my pain and like the layers of an onion; Dr. Barr peeled away the various layers of pain that resided in my abdomen, low back, hip, and knee. With each treatment, my pain was reduced and I began to live life more fully.

Dr. Barr uses a combination of skillfully implemented, traditional, complementary and alternative medical interventions. First, I received injections, many guided by fluoroscopy. Then, the unbelievable happened, using an osteopathic manipulation, Dr. Barr painlessly reduce a subluxation of two lumbar vertebrae, the probable initial cause of my pain. Finally, I was able to approximate normal posture. I was referred to physical therapy for muscle training and strengthening.

Three weeks ago, I received the first series of Prolotherapy injections to treat the pain in my low back and hip. That pain is finally gone. Today, I received Prolo injections for pain in my knee.

Dr. Barr has the good fortune to be supported by a wonderful staff. The focus is on making patients feel welcome and comfortable. She is very competent, warm, and caring. These folks are the icing on the cake!

Some people say if you want to find a good doctor, ask a nurse. I’ve been a nurse for many years but it’s from my personal experience of Dr. Barr’s knowledge, expertise and caring nature that I encourage you to see Dr. Lisa Barr and get your life back.

“I was having trouble with the arthritis in my lower spine. The pain was in my lower back and down my legs. Celebrex and pain meds were not helping. Dr. Barr treated me with PRP. Within 2 days the pain in my legs and back was almost completely gone. The only pain medicine I now use is Tylenol – 4 tablets a day.”

“In September 2011 I injured my right shoulder. I knew immediately I tore something. After 6 months of unsuccessful treatment, cortisone shots, physical therapy, I was lucky enough to be referred to Dr. Barr. I have received 3 PRP injections under Dr. Barr’s care. She was gentle and encouraging. Her staff is kind and compassionate. I am almost pain-free working my physical therapy program to continue building my strength and stability back. For the first time in a year, I am able to sleep on my right side again. Thank you Dr. Barr and your staff.”

“Broke my spine in 2004. Since then I continue with PT and have different spinal blocks and have had prolotherapy twice before. Now in 2012 I was in a lot of pain with my SI joints, so Dr. Barr again recommended prolo. Discouraged, I agreed. Wow, after 3 sessions I am pain-free with little aches due to weather changes. First time in years, I’m pain free and happy.”

It has been my pleasure to work with Dr. Barr in the capacity as a medical case manager for workers’ compensation patients.

Dr. Barr is an expert in the field of Pain Management and Rehabilitation. She understands workers’ compensation and will meet with medical case managers or claims adjusters weekly while in her program to discuss the patient’s progress and treatment plan. She is always available to answer my questions.

Her primary concern is providing the best possible treatment for the injured worker as well as returning them to productive employment. I value her medical opinions and look forward to working with her on future workers’ compensation claims.
